Everyone needs to have a balanced diet, especially patients with cancer. Although cancer treatment may affect a patient’s appetite and change their dietary preference, patients should still maintain healthy eating habits. A healthy diet can help patients stay fit and healthy before, during, and after treatment.
Here are some suggestions for maintaining a balanced and healthy diet. Try one or two of these tips every week. If it feels good and helpful, you can try more:
Be sure to have breakfast
Eating breakfast will help wake up the body’s metabolism in the morning and reduce the risk of overeating in the afternoon or later in the day when not feeling full.
Eat regularly throughout the day
Try having frequent but small meals. For example, eat 5 to 6 light meals instead of 3 large meals a day.
Plan meals in advance
Buy the ingredients you need for the next few days in advance and start keeping detailed meal records to monitor the progress of your nutritional intake and eating habits.
Share progress and results
Share meal goals with your family and friends so that they can offer more encouragement and support.
